We are an intergenerational community of worshippers from all walks of life, with a storied history in the heart of Lake Placid.

Who We Are

When the heartland of Florida was still being settled, Methodists in this area gained enough members to be organized into a church on February 12, 1922.  The Methodist Church of Lake Stearns was organized in the school house.  Since there was no other church in the area, it became the "community church".

Church History

In 1927, the name of the town was changed from Lake Stearns to Lake Placid. The church then became Lake Placid Methodist Church. There were 31 members at that time.  Much progress was made in membership and spiritual growth and in turn, plans began for the building of a new facility. With a lot of faith, hard work and many generous donations, this second church was built on Interlake Boulevard.

The opening day was May 1, 1949. The cornerstone reads: "Memorial Methodist Church, In Memory Of Those Who Served And Died In World War II."  During the next few years, membership increased from 92 to 306. Discussion of expansion led to the decision to move the church to a new site.

The Growing Church

Construction of the current church facility was completed in 1962 and the consecration service was held on November 25th of that year.  Over the past 100 years, Memorial UMC —now Lakeview Christian Church of Lake Placid — has sought to spread the Word of God.

What We Believe

I believe in God the Father Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth;

And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord:
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, dead, and buried;
the third day he rose from the dead;
he ascended into heaven,
and sitteth at the right hand of
God the Father Almighty;
from thence he shall come to judge
the quick and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic** church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.

The Global Methodist Church was founded in May 2021, for Christians of the Methodist way and others who share in a firm conviction that the Scripture are fully inspired by God, and as such are the whole and sole rule for faith and life. The movement is characterized by a desire to stay in line with the historic doctrines of the Christian faith, as well as the Wesleyan-Arminian tradition.
